The purpose of the blog was to record my quilting efforts and I have been quilting. You just can't tell from my posts.

How do I begin to catch up? I guess I should just start with what I am currently doing. Which for the last eight weeks has been healing. On May 28th my husband and I ran to the store to pick up something for the next day. We where hurrying because the store was closing early because of the pandemic. The announced the store closing so we were on the way to checkout. I rounded a corner and was looking ahead of me to see where people were and stepped on a cherry that I had not noticed. My husband says I looked like I was attempting to inline skate as my left foot went ahead of me rolling on the cherry. I went down hard. I mean really hard. I ended up breaking my upper arm in two placed. I was hauled to the hospital in an ambulance because I was in so much pain. The end and ball at the top of the humerus had been broken off. No way it would heal without surgery. Did I mention I am right handed and this was my right arm?

I ended up having surgery on June 10th. Yes two weeks later. Before surgery the swelling had to go down and I had to be tested for Covid-19 before the hospital would admit me. I ended up with my arm strapped to my body for six weeks. It is amazing what you can't do when you can't use your arm. I know that if this had been permanent I would have had to learn how to cope but I am glad it did not come to that. Last week my sling was removed and I was given exercises to start rebuilding my strength. I am now working toward regaining use of my arm.

But without the use of my arm I was unable to do any sewing and I am unsure how long it will be before I have the strength to use my rotary cutter. I had have so many things I should be working on.

My goal this week is to see if I can pick up the project I was working on the day I was hurt and make some progress. Looks like I will need to work on UFO's for the near future until my arm is stronger.

Just so I have a pretty picture here are the blocks for block one of the Figtree Summertime BOM I had completed just prior to getting hurt.

Goals for 2019It is hard to believe how fast the year has flown by. I can remember my mother talking about how quickly the years fly by now I know what she meant.

2018 has been a year of transition for me. First thing I did last January was retire from my job. That brought about a lot of changes in my life and routines. I can honestly say that I do not miss the commute that I had. I did enjoy the work and the people. But the commute was horrible.

I figured I would have a ton of spare time but somehow I have filled it. I had signed up for an exercise class but I hurt myself in class and took months to recover. Then we started babysitting an infant. She has kept my husband busy with me helping out. I have sewn more that ever this year, but not as much as I thought I would. Partly because I am still attempting to organize our house since the move and continue to purge. I really need to purge some fabric. I also need to find quick and easy quilts to make that I can donate to charity to use up fabric. Currently, I am feeling bit overwhelmed by the quantity of fabric I have. In the old house, it was scattered through out the house and I never really knew how much I owned. Now it is all visible and can be an assault on the senses.

So that leads into my goals for 2019.

First off I will have to find my UFO's. I have several.

So far my UFO list includes the following:
1. Quilt Mini Bobbin Quilt
2. Figgy Christmas Quilt - three block done, two cut out.
3. 4 Patch Lattice Quilt - all cut out.
4. Paintbox Quilt - all cut out
5. On Ringo Lake - complete thru step 2
6. Sea Etchings - mostly cut out.
7. Bee-autiful Embroidered Quilt - two blocks embroidered (This is hand embroidered so it will be a stretch to complete.)
8. Star Machine Embroidered Quilt - all but 8 blocks embroidered. Some rows sewn together.
9. Made in America - three blocks embroidered
10. Flock Blocks - 4 block completed, 1 needs applique. several more to make
11. Stitch down binding on Reflections quilt - binding attached. also need to repair a spot.
12. Stitch binding down on 6 other quilts. - one started.
13. Round the World Christmas Quilt - Needs Borders cut and added
14. Christmas Baubles Mini Quilt - Needs Quilted
15. Leader and Ender Quilt -
16. How to built a Snowman x 4 - One done.
17. Modern Vintage x 2 -

OK those are the ones I can think of right off the top of my head. As you can see I have more than 12. However, I did do more than 12 last year and some of these are close to finished. I will commit to 12 but try for more.

Last year I was able to complete all of my UFO's from my list by the end of October. I had pulled in a few more so I actually finished more that 12 during the year. I actually have 15 that were quilted and bound and in most cases gifted. I completed 26 tops this year. Some of mine and some that I did for my daughter. I want to up that number for 2019.

The most recent ones I completed were started in September to be given as Christmas presents for three of my grandsons.

In September, I started a quilt called Around the Corner using Michael Miller fabric called Happy Tones with an Essentials Charcoal by Wilmington Fabrics. The fabric was chosen by my grandson from my stash. The quilt is backed with Minky. I only had to buy the backing for this quilt.

In October, after I finished that quilt I started one called Fruit Slices. It was a kit from Craftsy that I had gotten on sale the previous year. It uses the Craftsy Boundless Fabric. This grandson wanted Neon colors this was a close as I had. It is also backed with Minky. Again I only had to buy backing.

In November, I started a Churn Dash quilt for my oldest grandson. I used a lot of the Science Fair fabric in black and gray this is the only quilt I had bought any fabric for to complete the top. He had told me his favorite color was black. The kid is very into Science and Math and wants to be an Aerospace Engineer. Again this quilt is backed in Minky that I bought.

Since these kids are all getting tall I made sure to make the quilts long enough for them. The reason I went with them getting the quilts this year was because of their height. All the previous quilts I had made them were getting to short. Because of the size and Minky my quilt holder was having trouble holding these up for as long as it took me to get the pictures.

All in all I was happy that I did not have to buy all the fabric for each of the quilts but for the most part used stash.

This top is now on the long arm and should be quilted this week. This was a really old UFO. I was noticing that some of the fabric in this top is from the 70's. However, not my oldest. I think the fabric is some of my oldest but this is only about 8 years old as a project.

In December, I also completed a couple of mini quilt tops. Unfortunately, not in time for Christmas since I was madly binding Christmas gifts. These are a Moda pattern called Christmas Baubles from I think about 2015. I used Jingle by Kate Spain.

I am trying to remember if I sewed anything else. I do have the center of an around the world done that I need to cut borders and attach. That was about it.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-4064319186672637012018-11-01T21:15:00.000-07:002018-11-01T21:15:17.707-07:00Good Grief it is November!Where on earth did September and October go?

I know that the first few weeks of September were lost to painting the house and taking kids to soccer practice but where did the rest of the time go?

I did complete my September UFO I just never posted it anywhere but on Instagram.

I completed my Bingo quilt. It uses Figtree & Co Chestnut Street fabric. I wanted a fall quilt. I started this on a year ago but completed it this fall.

I then started and came close to getting my first Christmas present quilt completed. I did get it done in October. This one the bright fabric was selected by my grandson and I decided to put it with the Wilmington Essential charcoal. I am not crazy about the boarder but is was what I had. I am backing this with Minky. It is being quilted now.

I then started my second Christmas present quilt. I am to the laying out stage. Number two grandson wanted a neon quilt. Sorry kid that is not going to happen but I can make it bright.

However, last week I realized that we were almost to the end of the month and figured that I better get my October UFO completed. So I hopped on it and got all the block sewn together yesterday. I almost walked away from the last boarder because I needed to go work at our Church's Fall Family Fun/ Pumpkin Slam party. I was working the espresso bar so I was not in the carnival area. I just got to caffeinate all the parents. I decided that I just needed to get that last boarder on and the party could start without me. All of these squares were left over from a project that my daughter made several years ago. She had gone really overboard on cutting squares and adding sashing to the bottom of the blocks. I needed to do some but not all. I only cut a few more blocks, maybe 10. All I had to do this week was lay it out and sew the sashing between the block and join the rows. I am sure this sat in a box for at least 8 years waiting to be done. Since my daughter gave away the first quilt she made she has claimed this one. Now I just need to come up with a back. Sorry for the bad picture, I was in a hurry to take it before I left the house.

This month I need to finish quilt number two for Christmas and start and hopefully finish quilt number three. I am giving a quilt to three of the oldest grandsons. They have not had a new quilt in several years and they are all getting very tall.

I will also look for a new UFO. I have already completed all of the UFO's that were on my list from last December. I did some early and added a few alternates in those spots. That is also the case for the last two months those have already been done. The Christmas quilt was the last one from my original list. Believe me when I say I am sure I can pull out a few others to work on.

My UFO for the month of August was a rag quilt that I had started many years ago. The main fabric is from the Bonnie and Camilla line called Bliss just to give you an idea of when I bought the fabric. Rag quilts were very popular at that time and I thought it would be fun to make one. Little did I know that I would not really enjoy the process. But I dutifully cut all my fabric and batting pieces from left over batting. I sewed a few of the bigger blocks and put it away for a really long time. And I got so close to having the darned thing completely done this month. I got it all sewn even after I ran out of the right color thread and had to go buy more. I then began to cut the seams. And cut and cut. I discovered that after about an hour of cutting I could no longer feel my little finger so I would have to stop. I have gone back and cut more several times now and have it 2/3 of the way cut. As soon as I get it all cut I will need to locate a laundry mat to go wash it in. I don't think I want to wash and dry it in my machines. I am expecting a lot of lint.

My second goal for August was to get the Stars and Strips quilts quilted and bound. Both are quilted and one is bound. My daughter is on a road trip this weekend and is binding the other one on her trip.
The last goal I had was to also work on the Bee-utiful embroidery block. I got the next block completed. This one was actually suppose to be done in July but after I re-injured my shoulder in did not happen. <strike>I have a picture but it is not downloading onto the laptop for some reason.</strike>
Well that was frustrating. I had downloaded several and then for some unknown reason the blue tooth turned off. Technology it was suppose to make out live easier.
This is one I almost forgot about. My grandson asked be to put together some blocks for the mother of a friend that started Chemo. All the kids on the Water Polo team had signed blocks. I added sashing from my stash and got it quilted. I got the blocks last Friday and delivered it in time for the game on Tuesday. She was thrilled with the thoughtfulness of the kids to try and encourage her and stay strong in her battle with cancer.
I am feeling pretty good about what I got done. I am actually hopeful that once the grandkids are back in school that I will be able to pick up my sewing some more. I have some Christmas presents that I need to start on. Since I have already completed the number for the month of September, I either have to select a new item of complete a Christmas present. That is the way that I am leaning at the moment.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-4972121348118770302018-08-01T12:00:00.003-07:002018-08-01T12:00:45.584-07:00Not all UFO's are quilt relatedJuly was a super busy month.

My first UFO of the month was not even quilt related. Last year I talked my daughter into buying glass tile to add to her kitchen back splash. It was time for that to happen. I enlisted the help of my friends to help me. They had all the tools. We started on the second of July. My friends husband had a wet saw and cut all the tile while my friend and I put it up. It took a good portion of the day to get it cut and on the wall.

When I started to feel better I added a boarder to a quilt I did not get finished in June.

This is the 4 patch lattice quilt from Missouri Star quilting. The tutorial is a few years old as is the fabric, which is Be Creative from Moda.

Then it was time to start working on my UFO for July. That was the Be My Neighbor quilt. I had a little over half of the block done. I started this last year with a quilt store but I was unable to attend all the sessions because of house commitments or needing to take grandkids to soccer. I did not follow the assembly instructions that I found for this on the internet. The quilt would have been long and narrow so I added some sashing between the house blocks to make it a little wider. I also added a colored outside boarder. I had to get a little help from my daughter on that. I re-injured my shoulder last week and she needed to cut the fabric for me. The fabric for this is all from Moda. It includes Sundrop, Sommerset and Chestnut Street. It is being held up by two of my grandsons standing on chairs.

All in all it was a fairly productive month. Last month as my son was helping my husband with a project I had two of his sons make pillow cases. The boys are wanting to learn to sew.

And since it is summer here are a couple of pictures from my yard. The first is a star gazer lily that we planted late last year. The second is a plant we actually moved from the old house. It is a upright fuchia that originally came from my inlaw's house many years ago. When the bed at the old house were being dug up for some foundation work that had to be done me moved the plant to the new house otherwise it would had died before the work was done. It did not do well last year since it was moved at a bad time. This year it is doing great.
This went on this month also. My husband hated these trees. They were extremely messy. He was alway racking up needles. This month they were removed. I miss the shade but not the work. Who knew evergreens shed so much?

I did complete three quilt flimsys.

The UFO for June had been completed earlier in the year so I added a new one.

Stars and Strips has been on my list for a while to complete. I did not one but two. One follows the pattern using all the same reds in each block and the other I mixed the reds up to make it look scrappy. I can't decide which one I like best. The one with the all matching reds went together more quickly as it took less thinking.

I also completed another top that I had actually started in March before I got sidetracked with other quilts. This one is X's and O's. I used the Missouri Star Quilt company pattern. It is worked in The Good Life by Bonnie and Camilla.
I have actually worked on several items but at this point nothing is done.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I did start something new this month. I began to embroider some blocks for a quilt I have wanted to make for some time. It is from the Moda Bake Shop.... I believe it was posted during the summer of 2016 about the time we decided to move from our old house. That project was put on the back burner as I purged and packed for the next several months.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">After the move it was work, commute, fix up the old house and unpack in the new one. Not a lot of sewing got done.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

The block I embroiders was the first of the Bee-utiful quilt along<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">.<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"> The quilt was designed by Pamela Morgan. (Bee-utiful Quilt Along) If I remember correctly Moda release two patterns a week all that summer. I loved it so I bought the fabric to use with the quilt at the time it came out. I have held onto it all these time. I bought the Bee Creative collection by Deb Strain. Now I have finally completed stitching the first block and have traced the second one.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hard to see but we had some black cap chickadees build a nest and hatch three babies. By the time I realized they had hatch they were already pretty large. I was really worried that my hanging fushia would die for lack of water but I was able to watch for the mom to fly away and water around the next without getting the babies wet. We did not get to see them leave the nest but that happened rather quickly. From hatch time to fledge is about 16 days.
It is not perfect. I took a lot of short cuts to get it done and some were not very successful. My quilter is not going to like my boarders.

This was the Patchwork QAL from the Fat Quarter Shop last year. Because of the move and working on getting to house sold I got behind and never caught up. I feel lucky that I had gotten all the patterns for it.

This is it yesterday afternoon.

This is it this evening. However today I had to do some ripping. I had not pinned...another short cut, when joining the rows and the sashings had not lined up. The hurrier I go the behinder I get.

The reason I was so far behind is that I finished sewing the quilt for the family that lost their quilter in April. Here it is finished. My daughter and I had to make quite a few design decisions to get this together. She had only completed the first row. She also had 5 other stratum sewn together. We sewed the others and hoped we choose the fabric correctly. We attempted to follow her inspiration photos. The granddaughter graduates next Wednesday. We will be giving it to her Grandfather to present to her. I really hope that she likes what we did. We tried to follow the pattern and statements of what she had said she was making.

I love the way my daughter quilted it. I hope you can see the wavy line quilting.

Just because I had this sitting around and needed something quick one day while I waited for my daughter to show up so we could discuss the above quilt, I made this little baby quilt.

I also completed one more block for the Be My Neighbor quilt.

I had other things that I was working on.

It was an interesting month in that I acquired two additional UFO's from someone else's sewing room. It is a sad story, but it is giving me the kick in the butt that I need to motivate me to get stuff done.

My daughter received a call from the mom of her son's good friend. Her mother-in-law had passed away at the end of March and they ask my daughter if she would finish the quilt that grandma had started for their oldest daughters high school graduation. As my daughter said, when she ask for my help, How could she say 'no' to someone that had just lost someone so close. What my daughter did not realize at the time is it is not exactly a traditional quilt. It is pieced traditionally but the quilter had just made a lot of different design choices to the quilt pattern. The daughter-in-law brought us what she could find in the sewing room. We are taking her pattern, fabric and inspiration picture and doing the best that we can to complete it by June. We are hopeful that we will have it they way it was intended.

The other project is the repair of the quilt that the quilter had given to her son for his 21st birthday. It has been well used. My daughter did not realize they were bring that one also. I have had a lot of practice lately fixing quilts so I will work on that one after we complete the graduation quilt.

Why am I the one doing it you ask. Because dear daughter already has two jobs, three if you count the long arm quilting plus taking care of husband, house and kids. I keep telling her the kids can do more for themselves than she thinks. She is just so used to doing everything. And I have apparently become her official seamstress. This month I sewed two tops for her for gifts

The first was one that she wants to give to her son's teacher for the teacher gift. I know, who gifts the teacher a quilt at the end of the year? She cut it out of her stash and I pieced it. She will get it quilted after she gets a customer quilt off her machine.

I also pieced a baby quilt for her. My 7 year old granddaughter laid it out, I pieced it and my daughter quilted it, we got it bound and gifted, all in the space of 5 days. I had to grab the finished picture from her IG feed with granddaughter holding it up.

For the other teacher gift, she is going to use one of my quilt tops that I did not have actual plans for. I had finished it earlier this year. It was on my original UFO list and I did it early. She got it quilted this last weekend and I attached the binding to the front today. I wanted to add the picture here in case my daughter decides to have her husband finish the binding and I do not get another chance to get a photo.

I also made some spring dish towels for all of us. I think I bought this to do last summer but did them last weekend as I waited for my grandson to come over to work on a project with me.

And last week I completed my April UFO. It was a quilt that I started in the fall. It is the pumpkin quilt pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew. I had put it aside because I needed one more fat quarter of orange. Even though I had found that I had never gone back to it. Now the top is completed. I hope that it will get quilted before the fall.

I almost forgot I also made some kitty blocks for @Chistypugh. She lost her daughter in February and is making kitty quilts for all the children in her daughters class. She asked for help from the Intragram community #emmasplan

I also fixed the Christmas quilt that I had done several years ago and when my daughter looked at it had told me I needed to turn a block. I un-sewed it and put it back in after giving it a half turn. I had had three strong reds right next to one another. I had probably turned a block as I was sewing the rows. The second picture is after I turned and sewed it back in. I can live with that.
I also did another UFO from my list. I mended my youngest daughters quilt that her dog had chewed a hole in. This is embarrassing since it took me eleven years to mend it. I was going to rip out quilting and replace fabric after I had found some of the fabric, that took at least 5 years before I ran across that in my oldest daughters scraps. But my youngest daughter asked me a couple of weeks ago, "Why don't you just patch it?" So that is what I did. It is hard to find on the front, the fabric is just a little brighter. I never found any of the fabric to match the back so it is really visible. But it is done. This quilt was made by my oldest daughter and given to her sister. This is before she became a long are quilter so it had to be at least 17 years ago since she got her machine at the end of 2001.
I worked on one other quilt this month. My daughter had quilted a top I had made several years ago. I can't remember how many years. It was a Christmas quilt that I had planned to give to my best friend one year but because it didn't get quilted at the time it languished. It was quilted in March and I got it bound this month. My girl friend was over the other day and I gave it to her forgetting to take a picture.

I also worked on catching up with the block of the month that I signed up for this year. I know I said I was not going to do that this year, but I signed up for 'The Flock' with the Hummingbird Highway. The are all pieced bird blocks. Not paper pieced. The kits are laser cut which is great because if I had to cut all those pieces it would not be happening. They are amazing. I still need to make March and April's blocks but here are January, a bonus block and February's block.
And what made me kick it into high gear this month? Everyone who talked to me about the quilter who passed made these statements. 'She was about your age' and 'She wasn't even sick.' That is what kicked me into gear. We do not know the time or the day that we will leave this earth. But I need to not leave a room full of unfinished projects. I still have more to finish. And I am not even counting the projects that I have never done more than buy fabric for or the mountain of fabric in my stash.

Now to move into May and keep the momentum going.

Instead of getting to work on March's UFO I did get a little crazy and grab a totally different project off the shelf. It was cut out and ready to sew. I had started it a while back....Although I can't remember exactly how far back that might be.

The quilt is called Summer and it uses <strike>Little Ruby </strike>Scrumptious (I realized I had that wrong after I posted, of course) fabric by Bonnie and Camille. That will give you a little idea of how old it is.

After I completed that one I actually started on another new quilt. I just needed to work with spring and summer colors as we were having a bunch of rain.

This one is made following the Perfect Ten Pattern by Swirly Girls, the fabric is Florabunda by Benartex. Bought before the move.

Sorry for the bad picture. It was the first day of spring and the sun was actually shining. But it was highlighting that one spot on the quilt as it came in the windows. This took 10 fat quarters. The aqua around the blocks and a boarder. I actually pulled it all from stash.

At this point my daughter reminded me that I still needed to do my March UFO. So I pulled it out.

This is called the Triple Barn Star. It was a workshop on Craftsy by Amy Gibson, many moons ago. The original pattern did not call for a boarder. But the quilt finished at 72 x 72 without a boarder on it. I had bought fabric to put on the back and had added additional fabric so that I could use the same thing for the boarder. The fabric is Birch Lane by Joel Dewberry. I think the reason I signed up for the workshop was because of the fabric. Again I have no idea how old this project is. I got stopped at the boarder. Once I got the boarders cut it only took me a few hours to finish the top and make a back.

So that was March 23rd that I finished this one. The month was not over yet.

What should I work on next?

I decided that I wanted to do something quick and easy.

I had bought some Lily & Loom last year because I wanted to check out the fabric. I was going to make a little quilt to give to a friends child but with the move that did not happen. I decided that it would be a quick quilt and pulled it out.

It was quick but I noticed that the charm pack was cut a little differently than the ones I have from Moda. The pinked edges are a little deeper, if that makes sense. Also they were about 5 and 1/16 to 1/8 in size. So before I cut the block that needed to be cut I trimmed them to 5 inches. I did wish that I had remembered to trim the squares but by the time I realized that I hadn't I had already started sewing. So I guessed on where I should be sewing. As my mom used to say, I did them 'by guess and by golly'. But they worked out.

I do have some more of this fabric that I have for another little quilt. It was pretty easy to work with and if feels pretty good. I am not sure I will buy precuts again but I do like the fabric and Craftsy does have some really good sales.

So that has been my March. Tomorrow we will have grandkids all day because they are starting their spring break so I don't think I will get much more sewing done this month.

It feels really good to empty a few project bins. I am hoping to be just as productive in April. We will need to start working outside soon on the yard so my productivity will depend on the weather.

I completed my UFO for the month early in the month. Since it was only the 6th by the time I completed the top I made a little heart quilt. I blogged about those already.

When the Olympics started and I wanted to watch several of the events I started binding a quilt. I got it done and given last Sunday. It was the first Reflections quilt that I made for my youngest daughter. It is a king size so it took a while for me to get it done. It was really hard to get a picture of it. It was a dark rainy day and the thing is huge so very hard to lay out. I draped it on my stationary bike. That is the most action that bike has seen in awhile.
This picture was taken with it folded on the couch but even with a light right next to it it turned out dark. Much better light in the sun room but it is crowded in there.

I also moved on to another of my UFO's. I was working on a Christmas quilt but got stopped when I needed to lay out the blocks and did not have room. So instead I pulled out an easier project and repaired a quilt that had been damaged by our dog, Moose. My husband had tossed it across the top of the dog kennel and he had pulled an edge into the kennel and chewed a hole in it. I had worked on getting that done several times but fixing a quilt is just not something I enjoy doing. The first thing I had done is take out a bunch of the quilting and replace a part of the back fabric and a section of the boarder. After doing that I noticed that I missed a few holes further out so decided to applique a patch on to cover them. That is what I did yesterday. It just needs to be re-quilted now. Not cutting up my fabric right away paid off this time. I still had some of the boarder fabric and I was able to visit the store that the backing fabric came from and buy more. This is the second quilt that I have repaired that Moose chewed up. The first time I was covered with a quilt and he was laying at my feet. I did not realize he was chewing on the quilt. We no longer have Moose but it was not the quilt chewing that had us rehome him. We did that after he broke my leg in three places and I could not take care of him while I was non-weight bearing. Shoot I could hardly take care of myself and I could not get out of the house or walk him.

Here is the applique I added.

I basically cut out some leaves and did needle turn applique to cover the holes.

The second quilt that I need to repair is a quilt belonging to my youngest daughter that her dog chewed a hole in. I plan on just putting a patch on that one. I have found a couple of orphan blocks but I am not liking how that will look so am thinking of going with something different. I am a good mom. At least her dog has never chewed on another quilt. I don't know how many more quilts I would be willing to repair.

Since I worked ahead on my list when I come to that number on my list I will just add something new. I have plenty of projects I can add. I need to get some items completed and out of my room.

I have continued to sort and purge as I unpack and put fabric on the shelf. I also used my label maker to label all the project bins. Once I have a full list I will have to make decisions on the ones that I no longer love and will very likely never complete. Right now the number of project bins is overwhelming. My husband says at this rate I have to live to be a thousand. I thought about starting one of them this month, we will have to see if I do. When I thought about it I was having trouble choosing one. That is a bad sign. One day I was having a lot of trouble coming to grips with everything I have. Before and during the move I did a lot of purging but it was really not enough. We still have to much stuff for our smaller house. However, I had already got rid of the easy stuff to let go of, now I have to make the tougher decisions. I have been told that I will have to go thru the stuff three times to be effective.

The other list I should be making is my list of quilts that need to be bound. My oldest daughter completed the quilting on four more quilts this month of quilts I made in the past. That adds to the ones I already have. Luckily my son-in-law is completing the binding on one of them. He actually likes binding and since it gives him a good excuse to 'watch' TV in the evening he will sit and bind. He also gave up Twitter and Facebook for Lent so he has more time. Right now my daughter has number two of the Reflections quilts on her machine. That one happens to be for her so maybe I can get her husband to bind that one also. Even after that one she has more to do. When she quilted for customers mine always got put on hold. Now she is attempting to get everything quilted. I am not even sure how many of mine she has.

This month I will also be making some backs for some of her quilt tops. I think she dropped by five for me to make backs for.

Looks like March will be busy also. Since it is still raining I should have plenty of indoor time before I need to work in the garden.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-7369311808912003402018-02-14T21:58:00.002-08:002018-02-14T21:58:31.088-08:00Making progressEven though February is a short month I have been making a lot of sewing progress.

Yesterday I was able to complete the little wall hanging that I started last week. This top was a reward to myself for completing my February UFO.

This quilt top was a free pattern from last year for Five Fat Quarter Fun called Chains of Love by Amanda of Jedi Craft Girl and Amber of Gigi's Thimble. Here is a link to the pattern Chains of Love

I used red and pink from Mama's Cottage and the back ground is the little hearts from The Good Life collection. And yes, they are directional and I made sure that they all went the same direction.

It went together very quickly. I realized when I was making this that it is the first heart quilt of any kind I have made. I am not sure why that is since I have collected heart patterns for a while. I will now have to make more.

In addition to making the little quilt I also completed making a back for the Reflections quilt and I also made a back for another quilt which was another one on my list for the year. That means I have completed two UFO's for the month of February.

Today I actually pulled out another one to begin working on. It has been sitting in my sewing room partially finished for at least 5 years. It is a Christmas quilt. I am hopeful that I will also get that one completed this month also. I had put 12 projects on my list to work on this year I will have to figure out what other partially finished projects I have to add to the list.

I have also been binding a quilt for my youngest daughter. I made the top for her a couple of years ago but it just got quilted last month.

I have at least 8 quilts in the binding pile. I am hoping to get them all bound this year. With the Olympics going on I have been doing more television watching and only have one side left on the current quilt it should be done by the weekend.

I feel very accomplished this month. I completed the UFO by February 6th. I do still need to make a back but I should have that completed by tomorrow.

This quilt only needed boarders. The first boarder was easy. The second one not so much. It is made from the bonus half square triangles from making the square in a square blocks. To do that boarder I needed to make sure that they were the same size. That took a bunch of trimming.

I love these colors.

Once I got enough trimmed I attached the boarders. I have a lot the squares left over to trimmed and put together an other quilt.

Here is the finished top. The second boarder is really hard to see. My husband was having trouble holding up this quilt. Our old house had a front porch to stand on. The current one does not. We are going to have to find a way to get a better picture.

This is actually my third quilt like this. I have made one for each of my daughters. I am currently binding one of the other ones as I 'watch' TV.

I started these after I visited the Art Museum for a Monet exhibit. It is called Reflections.

I have now started on a new project. I small valentines wall hanging. Will I have it done by Valentine's Day? The top will be together doubtful that it will be quilted. Also the back for the Reflections quilt will be done. Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-39717923661925202962018-01-31T23:42:00.000-08:002018-02-01T13:20:20.896-08:00January 2018It is hard for me to grasp that January has come and gone.

The good news is that I have finished my January UFO. Or at least gotten it to the flimsy stage.

This quilt was started for The Fat Quarter Shop QAL in 2016. I was doing fine on it as a QAL until we made the decision to sell our old house and move into a one level. Once the decision was made it was time to start purging and packing. Of course I was not going to purge my project but the sewing room was one of the rooms that was packed up early on in the process. So this was packed away in a bin, in a moving box.

It took a while to get the old house ready to sell so that was the project I was working on all of last winter. We had already bought the new, if a 70's ranch can be called new, but not much sewing was being done. Bins had been unpacked and put on racks, but that was about as far as I got with my fabric. We finally got the house on the market in June. We had to wait for the rain to stop to get it painted. We got offers at the end of the summer but of course it took until October to close. In the mean time I was working full time and commuting at least two hours a day plus checking on the old place and watering the lawn all summer. My husband and I were taking turns doing that since he was busy everyday babysitting the grandkids.

Then I needed to find my sewing mojo. I had only sewing two baby gifts and a mini quilt in all that time. But even after the house sold I had no motivation.

The UFO challenge this year was exactly what I needed. I have so many 'almost finished' projects. Two only need the boarders added. I wonder what it is about the boarders that stops me?

Speaking of boarders....this UFO had five boarders. That almost stopped me in my tracks, but I powered thru them. I even made the back and the binding. I did not get a picture of the back because it got to dark tonight to take a picture.

Here is the front. It was not a totally rainy day but not the brightest either so the colors look more washed out than they actually are. To take this picture I was standing on a stool to try and capture the entire quilt. The fabric is Strawberry Fields Revisited by Fig Tree.

Now I just need to get started on the February UFO. I am hoping it is a small project since it is a short month.

I have a list of UFO's that I would like to complete in 2018

1. Reflections quilt - <strike>I need to find the partially finished flimsy </strike>Found - February - DONE

Those are the UFO's I can see from my computer. Most are really quick finishes. A couple only need the boarder sewn on. Two I know are in the house somewhere but have been misplaced as we unpacked after our move.

The biggest item on my list is to finish organizing my sewing area and supplies.

Note to self - do not start any new block of the months.

Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-74966678974804597802017-11-04T06:51:00.000-07:002017-11-04T06:51:33.853-07:00Changing SeasonYes it is fall, but I am also referring to the fact that the old house is now sold.

We are still adjusting to the new location but the next big change will be when I retire. I am hopeful that will happen soon. The commute to work is a tough one. I actually go into work really early in the morning so it is the commute home that is killer. I have noticed that I grind my teeth when I am stuck in traffic. I need to retire before I break my crowns.

Plus, I have a lot of fabric to sew.

Speaking of sewing, I have been doing a little of that lately.

At the end of August I was invited to a 1st birthday party for a co-workers daughter. In their culture the 1st birthday party is very important. They had a huge party. The day I got the invitation I began a quilt. The first time I presented a co-worker with a quilt they did not even know that it was.

It is from 'The Big Book of Strip Quilts' from that Patchwork Place. The quilt is called Flowers for Nana Girl. I choose that pattern because I had pink and yellow 2 1/2 strips from a strip exchange from many years ago. More years than I can even remember. I only used a small portion of the strips.

After I completed that quilt I wanted to immediately cut out a new quilt. I resisted and instead picked up a UFO. Several months ago I had started a flannel quilt to give to one of my daughters. As I was sewing two of the rows together I had flipped several of the blocks. When I discovered it instead of ripping them out and fixing it. I stuck it on a shelf. I took the time to rip the rows and fix them then get the quilt top sewn together. I have not taken a picture of this yet.

Since my daughter had quilted a couple of my quilt tops I have been working on binding most recently. Right now I have a stack of quilts that need the binding sewn on. Winter is coming I have plenty of quilt to sit under and stitch.

I also need to work more on the house blocks. It has also become a UFO for lack of me working on it.

When we moved I had a quilt top together except for the boarders. I am still looking for it. I had another top together that my daughter was going to quilt but said I needed to move a block because she knew I had given it a turn and had to much of one color in one area. Can't find that one either. I keep looking. Much of my fabric is still in bins. I am hoping that I put the tops in one of them. Now that we are no longer spending time on the old house and I am about to retire I am hopeful that I can finish unpacking the fabric. I have to admit that I need to purge fabric but it is really hard.

Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-47671775692527567542017-08-13T19:33:00.003-07:002017-08-14T08:28:05.468-07:00The old houseI feel like I need to show the old house. It has been a part of out life for 44 years. We raise all our children in this house. Had 10 foster children and 10 foreign exchange students at different times. We loved this house. The only reason we moved is the stairs.

We had done many things over the years to it. In recent years, we had changed to gas, re-piped the water, decommissioned the oil tank, put on a new roof and updated the kitchen. Things that would have made it perfect for aging in place. But the laundry was in the basement and one of my knees will likely need to be replaced.

After we moved out week looked at how old it looked. We had a great kitchen but the whole house needed painted. Plus the basement stairs had begun to list to one side. I guess when I am a hundred and 5 I might list to one side also. Anyway, the work began to spruce it up.

Then the rains came. This year we had record rainfall. And that is saying a lot for Oregon. After the snow and ice melted and the rains continued we had a leak in the basement. That added to the expense and the work. We had to attempt to remediate the influx of water. We think we were successful. Anyway after the very expensive work was done we did not get anymore water during February and March, which had heavy rain. Or April or May when it continued to rain.

The stairs got fixed and made to code. All the electrical was checked and plugs and switches all changed out. The inside was painted and we waited for the rain to stop to paint the outside.

My husband and I totally disagreed about what should be done with the front of the house. I won some and lost some battles. Here is what it looked like after we finished painting the front.

I felt we needed bigger plants he refused. Ok they have grown a bit since this was taken but I still think we needed taller. Of course the fact that we had a huge rhoddy on one side before influenced how I thought it should look.
Front door, we painted the front porch. I love how it looks.

The below picture was given to us by the young boy in the picture who is now in his seventies. That rhodendron was small when he was a child. It was over the roof this last year and the center stump was hollow and full of ants. We know it had to go but I have to tell you the puny Azalea just did not cut it for me. I wanted another rhodendron. I have been looking for an old picture. But they are all still packed and I could not find one on my phone. Funny we took a picture of the kids every spring in front of that rhodendron. But I know you can get an idea of it's size because most of my quilt pictures were taken on the front porch and you could see it next to them.

OK I found an old picture on Google street view. This is from April of 2016. Before we moved and started fixing up the outside. Look at how big that Roddy was. We had trimmed around the bottom for the walk way.
The color is all wrong in the picture. Not sure what is up with that. I need to go over with a real camera.
This is getting kind of picture heavy so I will add more pictures of the other rooms in another post.Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-16977082893041007992017-08-12T07:44:00.001-07:002017-08-12T07:44:50.530-07:00Starting overI am finally beginning to pick up habits. Some are not so good. The move broke all my routines and habits and it has not been easy to establish new ones. Part of that is the longer commute. Part is that I kept to much stuff for the smaller house so I have been a bit over whelmed by what still needs to be put away. Part is I am always looking for something and I can't remember if I got rid of it or moved it. However, I am making progress on getting rid of more stuff. I am also finding creative ways of storing items in a house with little storage. I just keep telling myself I just need to make a little progress every week.

I have continued to unpack boxes and make hard decisions. But sometimes you just have to ignore it all and sew. Although instead of sewing I have been folding fabric and placing it on my racks. Yes racks. I have several racks of fabric. I have discovered many pieces of fabric and projects I had totally forgotten about. Some I am still loving and would love to start right now and some are a 'what was I thinking moment'. My biggest frustration is I am still looking for my small rulers (2 1/2, 3 1/2, 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 squares) and my favorite scissors. Also a USB stick. I have unpacked the majority of the sewing room and have no idea where they are. We also lost our BBQ set but they would have been in different boxes. All things I would not have gotten rid of.

Earlier in the year I had joined a Block of the Month program in the hopes of kick starting my sewing. Then I got busy trying to work on the old house to get it on the market and missed a couple of meetings. Which meant I fell behind. Last weekend I did work on a block. It is funny I do like these blocks but I am finding the hardest part is picking the fabric. I limited my choices to a couple of fat quarter bundles. Because I have so many I need to use them. But I will pick fabric and look at it awhile and then change something and have to look at it a while.

Anyway I am behind a couple of blocks but I refuse to let this become a UFO. I already have too many of those, but lets not mention a number here. I am just trying to make progress on something.

Here is last weeks block.

I have made a few others also.

This one looks much darker here than it really is since this was taken late in the afternoon. One of my other frustration is my lack of natural light in my new sewing area. But the room I am using was never intended to be a sewing room. On the blue prints it was called the Family Room.

On the list of things to do in the house is add more lighting.

I am hoping to get a chance this weekend to make another block. I have the fabric selected for another one and if I get that one done I will only be three blocks behind.

I need to not look at it that way. I have made progress getting the house in order I need to remember that - and keep looking for my scissors.

Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-12873585979026055312017-02-22T05:41:00.001-08:002017-02-22T08:03:20.057-08:00Finally a finish. It has been a long time coming but I was finally able to sew a few weeks ago.

I am still sorting. I still have boxes to unpack, but I made a baby present and have now presented it. Really I just needed to sew.

I made a simple patch quilt in colors for a little girl, where mom was using gray on many of the rooms accents, so Pink and Gray it was.

I am still rearranging my sewing room as I change my mind about how to set things up. I am sure I will be doing that for a while.

My husband still owns me a peg board for above my sewing area. It was promised for Christmas and sits waiting for him to get around to it. So frustrating.

I still have not found my favorite little scissors that I used at my machine. I thought I had unpack almost everything but the other day I found a box in the garage. They must be another out there somewhere.

We have had some unpleasant surprises in the new house. Like water in the crawl space. Lots and Lots of water. We are having a drainage system put in. Home inspector had said he saw evidence of previous water but the ex-home owner had come up with a big water bill and repair for a leak so we thought that was it. Now we know better.

And this year we will break the all time record for rain in the month of February.

While digging the drainage on our property. The workers discovered the neighbors drainage pipes in our yard. That is certainly not helping our situation. There was no easement on the Title. We are not sure how to handle that but we have now damaged their drainage pipes. So they will still empty on our property. Sigh.

We are still working on the old house so it is not on the market yet. Just one more thing to stress me out.

I NEED to sew.

Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-633308589838024447.post-46146098017664806442016-11-07T12:15:00.001-08:002016-11-07T12:15:22.581-08:00We are moved! We have been in the house for two weeks.

I am slowly unpacking and almost have my sewing room set up. I can't totally get my sewing room set up until the new lights go in.
The room did not have enough light in it so I am adding some can lights.

I will need to downsize more. Towards the end I was getting help and no purging was going on just packing.

Then my husband went into pack rat mode and began bring items I had purged but not gotten out of the old place yet. Plus items I had intentionally left behind. Like the WiFi router for the old provider that I needed to return. It took me over a week to find it. I still need to return it but the day I took off work to do that I could not find it.

I still have no pictures. And who wants to see boxes anyway?

This last weekend I unpacked all the boxes in the master bedroom attempting to have at least one room that is no chaos. Then this morning I realized I am missing a box somewhere that has my coats in it. Maybe they are in the garage.....

We still are cleaning up the old place and hope to get it on the market soon. There is some work that can now be done since we are no longer living there.

What a long process. When we bought our first home I do not remember it taking this long. As I think back I know it did because there were some items that needed to be fixed. But at the time it did not seem a long time because the sellers actually let us move in and pay rent the first couple of months while we waited for the loan papers to finalize.

We were able to sign the closing papers on October 7th but could not get the keys until the next day. We were lucky that the deed was recorded the same day because we had to wait for that to happen to get the keys. If is had not recorded on that Friday we would not been able to get the keys until Tuesday. Since we had not been sure we were getting the keys we had not arranged for movers for the weekend. I had feared that we would not get the keys so did not want to do that until we had them. Since the realtor got the keys to use Saturday morning it was too late to arrange a move that day. But we did personally begin taking some of the mountain of boxes to the new house. I am loving it more every time I walk in.

It is nice to not have so many boxes here but the place is beginning to look a little empty. I have been purging and packing for two months but there is still so much to do. I have emptied half of the kitchen and that is all moved and put away. I have very little room left in the new kitchen it is so much smaller. I am having to make some decisions on what to get rid of next. I will also be buying a piece of furniture for the dining room that can hold some of my items. I am thinking a buffet, we will see what I find.

My husband was dragging is feet about packing up and moving but he has now engaged. This last week I worked crazy hours at work because I worked a code deploy in the middle of the night on Tuesday. I had to do the site validation when the deploy ended. Since I had worked overnight I had Wednesday off. Since I knew that I would only sleep a few hours I had arranged for the locksmith to come by and change the locks that afternoon and the internet and cable to be installed and had the washer and dryer delivered. It happened all at the same time.

We had decided that moving our current washer and dryer out of the basement was not going to happen. We will leave them. They might last another couple of years if they don't get moved but a move might have killed the washer. Anyway, since we installed the cable we had to move the TV over there. That is motivating my darling husband to move out of here. Last night he was not sure what to do without a TV. I suggested packing up his study. My son is calling my behavior passive-aggressive, I am calling it smart.

After I got the TV over there my husband actually talked about when we can move the beds. We would do it this weekend but the Pacific Northwest is being hit by an atmospheric river this weekend and high winds. Not a good time to be hauling furniture or driving a truck across an exposed bridge. We will not be able to move this weekend. I am not afraid of a little rain but they are saying that we will get almost six inches this weekend with sustained winds of about 35 miles per hour and gust up to 50 to 70 mph. For around here that is not a little rain. We normally get about 48 inches a year but we get it a quarter inch at a time, from October to June. So we are used to dark and wet days just not copious amounts of rain over one weekend. Oh well, we are going to take this one day at a time. I just know that I can't retire until this house is sold and this house is not ready for showing yet.

What I really want to do is get my sewing room unpacked and sew something. I have not sat down and sewn in two months. Once we made the decision to move I was in packing mode I would purge and pack every evening and every weekend. I am amazed at how much stuff we had in this house. But 43 years in the same place with a lot of space for storage made it so I could 'hide' stuff in the basement and not worry about getting rid of anything. I had trouble parting with fabric and sewing supplies but I did get rid of possible half of my library. I thing that was over 1000 books. Some we sold but most were donated. I got rid of four truck loads of stuff from the basement that we no longer needed. I stuffed the trash can and a neighbors trash can every other week for pick up. I filled the recycling bins every week for the last couple of months. I have shredded years worth of papers.

For the purged items, I did not have the energy to have a garage sale it all got donated. I had the children come and pick up their remaining stuff and also gave them anything that they wanted from the basement. If it had been down there I was not going to miss it. I am sure as it is I have still packed to much stuff and I will have to make decisions about it later. I actually am still purging as I still pack up. But I was running out of staging room and could not pack everything because we are still living here. I so wish we could have just hired someone to come in and pack us up and move us but since I knew not everything would fit in the smaller house I had to make decisions. This has been very hard to do but very necessary. My children will appreciate the fact that I did it. They all think moving was a good idea for us. They did not want to deal with the mountains of stuff but I appreciate that they come and helped me during the last couple of months. My oldest daughter was here almost every weekend with the other two coming in for several weekends to help. They have all made trips to donation sites for me several times. My son and his wife came one week day with their SUV and packed up all the old paint cans and took them to Metro for disposal. They filled the back of their vehicle. Getting rid of the hazardous material was the hardest thing to do because of scheduling. They are open when I work. And you can't put it at the street for pick up.

I would post pictures but I have already packed all my cables for the camera. Although the house is such a mess I would hate for anyone to see it. With all I have been doing cleaning has not been high on the list and I have sure found a lot of dust.

We are hoping for drier weather next week and that we will be able to arrange to have our furniture moved at that time. Until then we will be living between two houses. I have started to unpack and put items away at the new house and will put up curtain rods so I can hang curtains in the bedrooms at least.

This post is getting overly long and wordy but this is the update for now. I hope that next time I can post pictures of my new sewing space.

We purged and packed the dinning room.

I am still going thru papers and shredding documents. My husband asked if I was purging 40 years of papers. I think it just feels like it. I don't really have 40 years worth. I hope.

I had a hard time purging items from the dinning room. I love linens - of course they are fabric. So it was hard to let some of them go. I love dishes and teapot and cups. I let some of them go but very likely kept more than I should have. Thank God for the organizer and my daughter and daughter-in-law who helped me.

Oh, and cookbooks. What is it about cookbooks? I have collected them for years and hardly ever use them but I do enjoy looking at them. I let many of them go and tried to sell some but most ended up at Goodwill. I hope I don't buy them back.

We have also been eating out of the freezer. We have had many interesting meals. But I am attempting to get most of the food gone so we do not have to move it. This is really not good for my diet.

When my husband ask what I wanted to do today I told him it was Labor Day and we would be laboring. Go purge and pack a box. So far he has packed 1/2 of a box and purged nothing. I am currently attempting to talk him into a storage unit so we are not living with packed boxes all around for the next month +.

It is going to be a hard move.

I continue to work on downsizing. I know that eventually we will need to move to a one level home. I am not sure where we will find one we can afford in the current hot housing market but if I can get our house ready for sale maybe we can afford something new. We happen to live in the hottest of the Portland neighbors so maybe we will not have any problems selling. One levels are just really hard to find.

This past week I have been cleaning out quilting magazines. I have (gasp) ripped out pages to save of items that I might make and gotten rid of two grocery bags of magazines. I have years of magazines still to go thru. That is what happens when you have a six bedroom, three story house you collect because you have room.

Last month I got the binding done on two quilts. The baby quilt and twin that I was working on in May. I have begun binding a small table topper.

I went one Saturday and spent the day at the local quilt shop getting help on my Made in America embroidery piece. I had gotten stuck and it has sat for almost a year. I am not unstuck.

I completed joining the rows of the third reflections quilt but still need to put on the outside boarders. June was just such a busy month and yet I do not know where the time went.

For July my goal will be:
1) finish by Reflections quilt. Not done yet
2) sort out more magazines - Two more pages out of the house
3) paint the front porch - that is were I usually take quilt pictures in badly needs painting. - Power washed- still not painted and fall is coming.
4) attend the Janet Fogg class at the end of the month - Attended but the project is now a UFO.
5) do another block for Made in America - Not done.

I am hoping if I write these down I will make progress.

AUGUST

There was absolutely no sewing done in August.

What I did do.

1)Began to pack and purge - I started by packing up my quilts that are not in use.
2)Had a family work day with the kids helping. We hauled 4 truck loads out of the basement to Goodwill.
3)Sorted my own clothes and got rid of 2 black garbage bags of clothes to Goodwill.
4)Began sorting and getting rid of books. We have hauled out hundreds of books. We were able to sell a few but most they would not buy. I still have several hundred books and that does not include the quilting books.
5)Packed up the DVD's
6)Dumped old canned food that had passed its expiration date. Some did not not even have a date. 7)Some of the home canned food was terrible old. I have not done any canning in about 15 years.
8)Contacted a couple of different contractors about doing work on the house.
9)Contacted a home organizer to help with purging and setting up my new house.
10) Contacted a loan company about a loan for a new home. (glup - that is pretty scary) We will still own this one but it needs work and that is not going to happen while we still live here.

We made an offer on a house and are waiting for the assessment. We might have a new house by the end of September.

The end of May and absolutely no finishes for the month.

I did however work on the embroidered star quilt I began joining the rows.

I did work on the third reflections quilt, the rows are sewn and I kept meaning to join them together but life got in the way.

What else did I do? I made several trips to Goodwill as I cleaned stuff out of our house.

I worked on organizing my sewing room so that I could walk in and sew rather then walk in and move stuff to sew. I made progress.

I have two quilts back from being quilted that need the binding sewn on.

I have two quilts that the binding is almost all the way finished. One is a baby quilt I can carry with me the other is a twin that I am working on at home.

I had a week off from work when I thought I would sew but with the watching the grandkids and trying to organize....my house is sadly in need of that. I would much rather sew than do housework and tend to let things slide. When my husband retired he suppose to pick up more around the house, but he never throws anything away. Nor does he pick anything up. This last weekend was attempting to clean up the dining room so we had room for everyone to eat on Monday.

I started walking more, as this winter I put on more weight that was acceptable.

I also started a diet last week. I am down 4 lbs. I does take more time to prepare food than to grab something already made, so that is taking additional time.

I would like to lose enough weight so that I can get back into deep water aerobics. Right now my swimsuit does not fit. I refuse to buy bigger clothes.

Just so I have a picture - here is an older quilt that I happen to have a picture of on this computer. I use this picture at work for all my social media connections. (slack and jabber)
This is from a few years ago. Made from a half square triangle exchange at a local quilt shop. I can't remember if I have ever posted this one before but I do love it.
It was actually March's UFO but I will take it.

This was the first Frivol. I started it when they first came out. It is not a hard block but when sewing the rows together I turned a few blocks as quarter turn. Which I then had to rip out and correct. I am very likely the only person that would have noticed that the seams were going a different directions. But it would have bugged me.
My oldest daughter has said this will look wonderful hanging in her living room.

Now to see if I can complete something for next month. Nancyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17779941292169327439noreply@blogger.com0
